The objectives of the MIC programme are:
To encourage the continuous development of K&ESR
staff by promoting opportunities that will improve and broaden their
skills and experience to achieve professional excellence and best practice
in railway safety and operating procedures.
To achieve these objectives, the MIC programme
comprises of lectures, workshops, hands-on exercises and visits to other
railways. Full use is made of material and resources within and outside
the K&ESR including liaison with other organisations.
Many of the sessions are designed to have a wide
appeal to K&ESR operating staff and are not deeply technical, although
this does not rule out technical sessions where this is appropriate.
The primary target of the sessions is footplate staff, but many other
members of the operating staff, e.g. guards and signalmen, will find
the subjects of interest and value. The sessions are designed and promoted
to attract a wide audience of K&ESR staff. The sessions provide
an opportunity for operating staff to meet socially in order to get
to know each other and promote better team working when on duty.
