Have you ever thought about becoming a volunteer?

Volunteering is a great way of making new friends, learning new skills and having fun!  Almost everyone you see when you visit the Kent & East Sussex Railway is a volunteer!

Our volunteers enjoy doing all sorts of different things to help the railway, from helping out in the buffet and shop, to restoring and maintaining our historic locomotives and carriages, repairing the track and stations to admin as well as operating the trains. So if you want to learn anything from Silver Service waiting to heavy engineering, there really is something for everyone.

You don't have to be a railway enthusiast or know anything about trains, our volunteers come from all sorts of different backgrounds, we're just ordinary people who enjoy working as part of a team to keep our wonderful steam trains running for others to enjoy.

We run regular social events for our volunteers and you can even help your job prospects not just by learning skills and working as a team, but by having something to add to your CV, we can even provide references to your future employers!
